…a blog about restoring my 1988 M3.

Welcome!

The engine is finally out. Welcome to my new blog about the restoration of my lachssilber 1988 BMW M3.  I will be posting updates and photos of my progress as well as technical details of some of the modification projects I plan to undertake.

My M3 started out as a rough example that had been very poorly taken care of.  I purchased it in my early 20s and spent a huge amount of time and money trying to bring it back to it’s original glory.  I drove it very hard for many years.  I had the engine rebuilt to 2.5L and the suspension upgraded.  It was pure heaven on any mountain road.   Sadly, engine management, life, and financial problems forced me to park it for a long time.  While parked it was hit on two separate occasions by “friends” driving forklifts.

Hood and front end off. I’ve started the tear down process and while I’m being very optimistic about having her back on the road in 2 years, it will probably take a bit longer than that.  I’ll be doing as much of the work as I can, myself.  Just about the only thing I won’t be doing is the body and paint.
